BEFORE YOU ARE A PARENT
Before you are a mom you are a little girl
Dreaming about an oyster that holds a little pearl
Before you are a dad you are a little boy
Imagining the impossible from just a simple toy
Before you become a father you learn what’s right from wrong
Before you are a singer you’re inspired by the song
Before you become a mother you search for your true love
Before you are a teacher you seek guidance from above
Together you are a team your child needs the most
Second only to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Share your words of wisdom, show them how to live
They’ll learn from you the reasons, of not to take but give
Before you were the child but now that little boy
will be imagining with his own son, the possibilities of that toy
Before you were the seeker searching for the pearl
but now you are the provider handing oysters to the girl
Yesterday you were the student your parents were the preachers
Today you’re still the student but your children are the teachers
